And here is a link to this lovely southwest corner of Germany, which closely borders France and Switzerland. Frieburg is an ancient town whose center is without cars, and whose streets wind here and there lined with shops. It’s grand cathedral is in the middle of the square, right outside the window of the hotel I recommend you all stay at. I visited its museum full of 20,000 year old artifacts taken just miles away at archeological sites, and I visited the arch where witches were hung in 1399 - with a plaque listing their names and expressing an apology and a plea for tolerance in the world. A university town, Freiburg has much to offer in culture. And for wine lovers, the surrounding vineyards and countryside reminded me of Napa Valley in California.
